YWCA Columbus Receives LEED for Homes Midrise Gold Certification

The Downtown YWCA Columbus restoration project was recently completed and Berardi+ is honored to have played a role in the building’s transformation. In an interview with Columbus Business First, CEO Elfi Di Bella stated, “This has been an extensive transformation that has greatly upgraded the living space of the women’s residency, in addition to condensing administrative space for streamlined work flow. All this was accomplished while preserving the historical integrity of the building and as a tribute to the lasting legacy of the organization”.

Berardi+ approaches every historic restoration project with the same ambition – to strive to sustainably revitalize the building, while preserving its authentic integrity. As a firm, we strongly believe in conserving the existing urban fabric of cities and we are delighted to announce that the completion of the YWCA marks our 37th completed historic restoration project and the building was recently awarded LEED for Homes Midrise Gold certification. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design is a distinguished organization that is dedicated to promoting sustainable design through their environmental performance evaluation of buildings. From the beginning design stages, Project Manager Joe Berardi was eager to pursue LEED certification for the 90-year-old Griswold building. “As design professionals, we take great pride in achieving the highest levels of sustainability possible on any given project. We continually strive to challenge our abilities in finding creative and innovative ways of handling sustainable solutions to not only enhance the interior environment but also as custodians of the environment in which we live.”
